Video Essay Updates (THREE BILLBOARDS & THE DIRECTOR'S CUT)
In addition to adding two new video essays last month-- one on Oscar winning film THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI and another on the origin of the idea of a Director's Cut-- my earlier video essays have been gaining nice traction.
My EISENSTEIN MONTAGE Video Essay has climbed to over 16,000 views in 8 months on YouTube and I was contacted by several people in other countries desiring to translate/subtitle the essay and upload it to their country's internet (YouTube is blocked in numerous foreign countries for instance).
It's a small thing but it makes me happy that people have responded so positively to my first real video essay and that I've added to the conversation regarding Sergei Eisenstein and his Methods of Montage-- an oft misunderstood and hazy thing, even for editors and film fanatics.
Secondly, my INHERENT VICE Video Essay recently passed 5,000 views and The Playlist wrote a piece on it you can see here along with the video essay itself.
Thanks everybody for watching, enjoy my newest releases below and let me know what you think!
